Newton Lodge, Kylesku is a luxury guest house (B&B), set amidst stunning scenery in the Highlands of Scotland. We offer bed and breakfast with a difference. All our rooms are en-suite and guests have their own key to come and go at their leisure. Our quality en-suite accommodation was purpose built to be a four star small hotel. Now run as a B&B, guests enjoy the privacy and comfort of a quality hotel but at a lower cost. We still hold a residents licence for wine and spirits so our guests can enjoy a drink or sip a malt whisky in either our lounge or conservatory while enjoying the fabulous views.
When you arrive, you will receive a warm welcome from resident proprietors, Andre and Freda. We shall show you the residents lounge, with its picture windows and stunning panoramic views, and then explain how to use the telescope in the conservatory. The lounge and conservatory overlook small islands in Loch Glencoul and you will be able to watch the seals that come ashore to bask in the sun and give birth to their pups. Our Guest House is situated just south of the famous Kylesku Bridge and 16 miles from Lochinver, in the North West Highlands. There is lots to do and see in the surrounding area and we recommend that you take a few days to relax and explore the spectacular Northwest Highland Tourist Route , which is right on our doorstep.
Kylesku
is situated at the centre of Scotland's first Global Geopark, a 2000
square km area, which encompasses some of the finest mountain and coastal
landscapes in Britain and many classic geological features. This is a great area
for walking, hill walking, mountain climbing and
mountain biking. We have something for all levels of fitness. There are Munros
(Ben More Assynt and Conival) and Corbetts (Quinag and Suilven) to attract
the more active visitor. The whole of the Assynt and Arkle, Ben Stac and
Foinhaven are also within easy reach of our Guest House. Sandwood Bay, reputed
to be the most beautiful beach in Scotland, is a 40 minute scenic drive from
Newton Lodge followed by a 4 mile walk from the car park at
Blairmore. We also have graded tracks and golden sandy beaches for those who
prefer a more leisurely stroll. Wildlife
enthusiasts will love this area. Red deer are plentiful and even graze in the Guest
House grounds at night. We have resident stoat, badger and pine martin although
they are seldom seen. Seals are common in the loch and can be watched from our
conservatory or by taking a walk along the loch shore. Otter are
also common but much more elusive and difficult to spot. From Kylesku you can take a
boat trip up Loch Glencoul to
see the highest waterfall in Britain, with its drop of 658feet (right). This
trip takes you really close to the seal colony, allowing great photo
opportunities. Visit our local Our B&B is also popular with bird watchers. We have many highland specialities such as Golden Eagle, Merlin, Golden Plover, Raven and Buzzard. Ptarmigan and snow bunting occur on the mountain tops and red throated and black throated diver in the lochs and lochans. We are also close to the renowned Handa Island (left), with its spectacular cliffs and seabird colonies. Fly fishing is also a local attraction. There are hundreds of lochs and lochans and most contain brown trout. Trout fishing permits and boat hire can be organised locally and there are also sea angling opportunities. Our B&B is truly a great place to relax and unwind. We especially recommend Newton Lodge to lovers of beautiful scenery, wildlife and remote, wild and unspoilt places. We provide a sumptuous breakfast and then you are free to either relax and enjoy the scenery or make use of the long daylight hours to explore. We can provide a packed lunch and you will find many interesting places to eat on your travels. You can return as late as you like without the constraints of an evening meal or you may prefer to return early and eat locally after a relaxing drink and shower. The choice is yours. Above all else this area is one of Scotland's best kept secrets. Don't just pass through but spend a few days to go off the beaten track and discover its treasures for yourself.
