SO MUCH TO SEE
A paradise for wildlife
The birdlife and animals roaming wild are a great attraction. Otters. Eagles. Stags. There’s even a common seal colony and breeding grounds right on our doorstep, in the loch below Newton Lodge. Watch them via binoculars from the lounge or take a pair out with you and wait and see what happens. We would love to know what you have spotted.
AN ANCIENT LANDSCAPE
UNESCO Global Geopark
One of more than 150 worldwide, this protected area tells the story of a unique landscape and geological heritage. 3 billion years of rock formations – the oldest to be found anywhere in Europe and containing the earliest evidence of life. Visit The Rock Stop Café for more information on this fascinating subject and marvel at the view.
How to Find Us
Please note that although our address comes under the post town of Lairg, we are not in Lairg which is on the East Coast, but near Kylesku on the West Coast. It takes approximately 2 hours to drive from Inverness and the quickest way is via Ullapool.
From Ullapool, go north on the A835 until you reach Elphin. On the other side of Elphin, you will come to the Ledmore Junction. Turn left towards Kylesku on the A837. The next turning will be a junction on the right, just past Ardvreck Castle (a ruin). This is the A894. Take this road and continue. Once you see the turning to Drumbeg on your left, we are a few hundred metres further along on the right-hand side, where you will see the sign for Newton Lodge at the end of the drive – This is a stag head on a white background.
Mainline train services operate to Inverness. There is a bus service running from Inverness to Durness once a day during the main season and stops at the top of the road to the Kylesku Hotel. The nearest airport is Inverness.
